Is there really such a thing?

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. A Santa Claus of free electricity, that is, and you can start living off the grid yourself!

Let’s face it, folks: We are all in a global energy crisis. Not just a few of us but all of us, everywhere.

Natural resources such as wood, oil and coal are dwindling day by day. Electric bills continue to climb higher and higher; partly because of the depleted resources, and partly because the utility companies are the only game in town.

They have us all between a rock and a hard spot, totally dependent upon them for our day-to-day living, and they know it.

Are utility companies taking advantage of this situation?

There is a way to escape the clutches of the utility company. You can start living off the grid by producing your own free electricity.

There are several methods of generating free electricity:

• Solar
• Wind
• Water

Hydroelectric, or water powered generators for electricity, are great. But since many people don’t live on a property with a fast enough moving stream of water to use water power, we’ll focus on free electricity from the sun and wind because these two things are something that almost all of us have access to.

Solar powered electricity is FREE.

Once you make the initial investment of buying or building solar panels and getting them installed on your house, you’re on your way to freedom from the utility company!

The size of your house and the amount of electricity you need to generate every day will determine how many solar panels you need to get off the grid totally.

You can buy or plans or kits to build your own solar panels for as little as a couple of hundred dollars. All that is called for are simple materials easily found at your local hardware or building supply store, and very basic skills.

Look at it this way: What have you got to lose by trying? If you invest $200 and your solar panel for some reason doesn’t work, you aren’t out that much.

But, if you spend the money and that very first solar panel saves you half of your average electric bill every month…..WOWZA! It will have paid for itself very soon, possibly the first month it’s in place and producing free electricity for you!

Ditto for a DIY windmill or wind turbine, with a cost of around $150 in materials and very basic building skills required.

You have little to lose, and a LOT to gain, by trying out solar or wind generated free electricity, and getting off the grid!
